Extended R&D Workbench

In the Extended R&D Workbench model, Serengeti sets up engineering teams that look and feel like divisions of your own company.  This model is optimal for technology vendors who care as much about how something is built as to what is built.  Together we resolve requirements & deliveries, manage priority changes, and work through any unexpected technical issues.  We manage the teams and the output to the next milestone or sprint, you set the objectives and maintain open communications.  This engagement model is not possible to realize on day one, but with the right transition plan and the right environment of earned trust, it is exceptionally powerful.

In this engagement model, a client works with an assigned Serengeti core team in an ongoing basis.  Around the core team, Serengeti supplements the core team with missing skills or additional capacity as and when needed.  Through this approach, our clients benefit from company and individual continuity as well as flexibility to expand or shrink the team size as business need change over time. The process of establishing scalable offsite teams is always managed by Serengeti in three phases: onsite, transition and offsite. In each of this phases we have different focus. Depending on a customer requirements, engagement complexity and scope each phase can vary in length and number of engineers involved.

We start by joining your teams, we can then collaborate off-site, and ultimately we can form full feature teams in our offices that interact with you like your other development teams. The Serengeti core team becomes familiar with our client’s corporate culture, programming technologies, tools, development, and management methodologies.  They also act as a bridge and a source of knowledge transfer when adding other Serengeti resources to the team.

For successful cooperation in the Extended R&D Workbench model, it is crucial that Serengeti has established structures and processes to help clients transition the work from onsite to offsite quickly. This enables us to transition all aspects of development– not just the easy things or the highly defined tasks. By optimal usage of this onsite and offsite approach during the transition, we provide a superior approach to software development outsourcing and building full capacity flexibility that is essential in the fast moving and not always predictable business environments of our clients.
